My first job was cutting grass. That was over four decades ago. I counted inventory for three Christmas seasons at a hardware warehouse and worked in a men’s clothing store. They each gave me some spending money and an experience of what it is to work for someone else.I learned something of myself in each of these. I sold vacuum cleaners door-to-door (not well might I add), worked in a doctor’s billing office, and in customer service for a large health insurance company. I have served as a youth, young adult, children’s, and lead pastor.
While many might point to this last work I have done and am doing as a “calling,” all the work I have done has been an expression of myself and the gifts I have. Some were clearly more reflective of Self than were others.
I hope for everyone who works in some way, in or out of the home, that they will see in what they do a little bit of the reflection of who they are, of Divine Image as only they can display it. I hope that everyday in my work as well.
