I have a morning daily practice that includes meditation, reading, journaling, reflecting. It is a helpful practice and sets me up to keep practicing presence throughout the day.
While I know better than to attach a value to my daily practice, this morning was especially good! And having labelled it, I find myself smiling even now.
Why? I am smiling because I am aware by labelling it, I have set myself up for comparison and, ultimately, for disappointment and suffering. I have identified myself with this value of my practice. Tomorrow, I will wonder if my practice will “feel” as good or may be even better. I will begin to anticipate what tomorrow’s practice will contain and, in so doing, I will take myself right out of this moment; being present in the moment is part of why I have a practice to begin with!!
So here I am, smiling and letting go of the labels for today’s practice. I am practicing presence as I write this short blog post. I suspect I am not alone in getting caught up this way so I thought I would share.
All the best in your own practicing, infinitely precious people!
