The Great Unfolding

What are you most excited about for the future?

I am most excited to live in an evolutionary universe. As part of what is new every moment, I get to be a part of what is slowly being revealed. One of my favorite scientists and mystics of the twentieth-century wrote:

Above all, trust in the slow work of God.
We are quite naturally impatient in everything to reach the end without delay.
We should like to skip the intermediate stages.
We are impatient of being on the way to something unknown, something new.

We are part of something still coming to fruition, still not-yet. And while that being caught in the this “threshold” space of awaiting feels uncertain and chaotic sometimes, the potential for what may yet be still hangs on the leaning into the beautiful, not-as-yet-revealed-and-being-revealed future.

Of course this leaning on this future invites me to take very serious what I am and what WE are bringing to what is being revealed. We are shaping what is being revealed with our creativity (sometimes destructivity). It makes the little bit I am and do in my little corner of Reality matter and it it makes what everyone and everything does matter as well. It comes back to what in part makes each infinitely precious is the unique, once-in-infinity part we get to play.

It calls forth the very best in each of us if we can glimpse the hopeful potential in every little bit we add to what is unfolding. The universe is not-yet-finished and neither is our little corner of it! And though sometimes I give into despair and pessimism, this is not the primary place from which I approach this living. I know living fully and lovingly NOW shapes in subtle ways a beautiful, healing, and whole-making adventure, the Great Unfolding.
