The Lovely Changes of the Day

Just two days ago, I found myself marveling at the beautiful snowflakes outside my window. In a matter of hours, they vanished, leaving no trace behind, replaced by the bright sunshine.

This fleeting change serves as a poignant reminder of life’s constant flux. No two moments are precisely the same; everything is in perpetual motion. Yet, I often catch myself comparing moments as if they could be measured against each other. The snowflake that caught my attention earlier now prompts me to ask, “Where is the lesson in its absence?” It seems the greatest teachings emerge in the present moment, offering new insights if we’re fully here to receive them. The challenge, however, lies in remaining anchored in the now—basking in the sunlight just as fully as we observed the snowflakes.

With the onset of Lent yesterday, my thoughts naturally drifted towards contemplation of mortality and the ephemeral nature of existence. While some might find this morose, I see it as an invitation to acknowledge the limits of my time in this physical form. This realization propels me to prioritize and act on what truly matters, without delay. Contemplating our transience encourages us to live more fully in the present.

Maya Angelou once said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This insight beautifully encapsulates the essence of impermanence—our lasting impact is often the emotions we evoke in others.

Awareness of life’s fleeting nature inspires me to embrace a big-hearted approach to living, focusing less on minor errors and more on cherishing every moment and individual I encounter. I aspire to spread a message of love and value, affirming that everyone is cherished and significant.
