Where Are You in the Story? A Holy Week Reflection

As we find ourselves in the heart of Holy Week, we are invited into more than remembrance—we are invited into presence. Each day of this sacred week reflects a part of our own human journey. The ancient story of Jesus’ final days echoes the patterns of our lives: praise and paradox, disruption and devotion, suffering and silence.

Palm Sunday begins the week with celebration and confusion. Jesus enters Jerusalem to shouts of “Hosanna,” but the crowd’s expectations are misplaced. They long for a political liberator, not the kind of Messiah Jesus came to be. If you find yourself wrestling with who Jesus is in your life—or who you’ve expected him to be—perhaps Palm Sunday is your entry point.

On Monday, we remember Jesus overturning the tables in the temple. He disrupts systems that marginalize, calls out religious convenience, and insists on authentic worship. What needs overturning in your life? Where is your spirit being stirred?

Tuesday is a day of teaching and tension. Jesus offers challenging truths while opposition builds. Maybe you, too, feel that tension—living into love while others misunderstand or resist. Perhaps this is your Holy Week moment.

Wednesday brings a quieter act: a woman anoints Jesus with costly perfume. It’s an act of love so extravagant that others call it wasteful. But Jesus honors her. Could your Holy Week be about leaning into love, even when it feels vulnerable or misunderstood?

Thursday is the table and the towel. Jesus gathers his closest companions, knowing betrayal is at hand. He offers bread, wine, and radical hospitality. He kneels to wash feet, modeling servant love. Do you long for a seat at that table? Are you being called to serve in ways that stretch you?

Friday brings the cross—suffering, silence, and surrender. Maybe you’re in a Good Friday space, holding grief or unmet expectations. Holy Week doesn’t ask you to skip past this. It asks you to stay, to sit with the pain and let it be real.

Saturday is the silence of grief and waiting. It’s the space between what was and what will be. If you are grieving, waiting, or simply not sure what comes next—this day is for you, too.

Each day of Holy Week opens a door. The question is: Where are you in the story this year? Are you cheering and confused, overturned and awakening, grieving and waiting? Wherever you are, this sacred week meets you there.

Let us not rush to resurrection. Let us be fully present—day by day—with Jesus and with ourselves. And may our prayer this week simply be: Jesus, walk with me. Let me not turn away.

Remember, always: you are infinitely precious and unconditionally loved for the gift you already are.
