Sometimes it is difficult to believe that you and I are precious. There are voices outside us and voices within us that try to convince us otherwise. Sometimes those voices are remembered voices tied to previous failures and mistakes. Sometimes those voices are the critical voices spoken in the moment. I suspect in our shared humanity, these voices come to all of us. That is why I write. There are times when I hear those voices for myself and forget for a moment that I am precious; sometimes, I forget for longer than a moment.
In moments like those, sometimes all that I can do is hold on. I hold on to the words, “I am precious. I am infinitely precious and unconditionally loved for the gift I already am.” Even when I am not able at that moment to believe the words, I try to remember to say them, sometimes with the shortened “I am precious,” or simply “precious.”
Remember, you are precious too. The long journey of learning to hear the negative voices and disregarding them. They have no power other than the power we give them to define us. The negative voices do not get to define us. Only Love and inherent preciousness can do that.
