I find it meaningful to begin my day in gratitude. So I have a gratitude practice.
Gratitude Practice (summarized)
- Open my journal.
- Close my eyes and “breathe myself here.”
- Open my eyes and say, “I am thankful for…”
- Write name by name what arises from that statement.
- When I reach a “stopping point,” repeat out loud the list, savoring those people, places, and things for which and whom I am thankful.
I find that beginning my day with this practice over a period of time has changed the way I receive the day; the day feels more like a gift. I find on the whole I experience the day with a thankful attitude, getting caught up less in the pieces of a day that do not go my way. I do begin to see most, if not all, of my day offers up something or someone who solicits thankfulness in the moment.
No one may write “thank you” in your mocha; however, you may come to “see” it there anyway with a gratitude practice. I would love to hear about your practice!
