Where is Home?

What does your ideal home look like?

This writing is a second attempt. I wrote and edited a response to this question as I originally read it. However, in an “aha” moment, I realized there was a different response rising in me. That is because my first response was to the question, “What does your ideal house look like?” On my final re-read, I suddenly saw the question as it was, not as I was and had imagined it to be.

Home creates a different image in me. Home is a state of mind and a place. I describe home this way:

Home is acceptance, love, mutuality, space at the table, accountability, and kindness; home is being known and called by name. At home one finds trust and truthfulness, safety and boundaries. Home is where we are welcome when we might not be welcome anywhere else.

Sometimes I find home in a house. Mostly, I find home wherever I am because I carry it with me. Finding the “ideal home,” or a close semblance thereof, is a lifelong journey; it is worth making that journey. Don’t give up if you have not found it! Home is for everyone.
